When I asked you to share the captivating pieces you've been working on lately, Wendi casually dropped news of her blog, Changing Lives, and ebook project, Nature + Nurture, and it’s something truly special.
As soon as Wendi started describing the ebook, I could feel the passion radiating through her words. Nature + Nurture is, hands down, Wendi's pride and joy. And after getting a sneak peek at it, I can absolutely see why.
It’s a beautiful piece of work that combines Wendi’s gorgeous nature photos (she’s a skilled photographer, too!!) with wisdom inspired by the great outdoors. In Wendi's words, "I believe this book could change lives. Its words and images encourage readers to appreciate their unique beauty."
A bold reminder to shed that suffocating mold of conformity. Chase authenticity. Let your true, unapologetic self shine, quirks and all ('cause we all have them).
I don't know about you, but those words, that mission speaks volumes to my soul. So, join me, and let's show Wendi some love and support for her groundbreaking work. It’s that good!
I hated that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach whenever a new client contract landed in my inbox.
I’ll get a wave of dread as I scroll through page after page of dense legalese.
What if I miss some vital information buried in all that archaic jargon?
What if I accidentally agree to some shady clause that puts my freelance business at risk?
Of course, we're excited to bring on new work and get that lucrative relationship going. But then they hit you with their miles-long, complicated agreement filled with terms like "indemnification" and "work for hire." 🙄
I needed answers, so I tracked down (not literally, though; that would be weird!) two attorneys who know the industry well, Gigio Ninan and Elliott Brown, and fired away!
And they let me!
They broke down common clauses, terms, and implications that we, freelancers, need to understand. I’m talking:
Payment terms and invoicing requirements (getting paid what we're owed)
Intellectual property rights (who actually owns our work?)
Indemnification obligations (being held liable for client losses!?)
Non-compete restrictions (how much they can limit our client pool!?)
Independent contractor vs. employee classification
Termination protocols
And so much more.
We combed through the legal jargon, covered potential red flags and how to spot them, and gathered expert tips for negotiating freelancer-friendly terms.
There was just way too much information for me to pack into this newsletter. And I didn't want to shortchange any of their crucial intel.

Hi Reader, We're always excited to celebrate wins from our amazing community! This week, a huge shoutout goes to Hadia, who recently landed a coveted gig with one of her dream clients after some seriously persistent and strategic outreach. Here's what Hadia had to say about her experience: "I had a few companies in mind that I wanted to work with. I checked out their LinkedIn pages and reviewed the profiles of their employees, such as content marketing managers, editors, and heads of digital....
It can be a real pain! Hi Reader, Do you remember my getaways? Well, one of them was a business/pleasure cruise with a bunch, more like a whopping 3500+, nurses! If you’re a nurse/healthcare professional and haven’t experienced NurseCon at Sea, you’re missing out! Anyway, I digress… But who manages to sprain her foot 8 hours into the cruise? Me! 🙋♀️And it was in a very unceremonious way, mind you! I was walking and made an overly zealous pivot twisting my foot in a way human anatomy never...
The P mistake you can't afford to make Hi Reader, Whew, can I take a deep breath? These past few weeks have been a whirlwind for me. Some highs and some pretty low lows, and life has been just doing its thing in that beautifully messy way it tends to do. That's just how it goes sometimes. If you're feeling like you're on this crazy ride, too, well… now you know you're not alone! No matter how tough it gets, remember that better days are always around the corner if we just hold on. Those lows?...
